There will be no preschool next week because of the thanksgiving holiday. (Nov.23, 24 and 26th)

Another week has gone by quickly.  We finished making our "h" train on wed. And Thursday.  We made Indian headbands and talked about how kind the Indians were to help the pilgrims when they reached Plymouth  rock.  We made pumpkin pies and worked really hard on our shapes.  The 4/5yr old classes practiced our sight words while the 3/4 yr old classes worked on their letters and sounds
The classes are coming along fine.  If your child is still struggling with writing his/her name, please continue helping at home and encouraging them to keep trying.  I am hopeful by Christmas everyone will be able to write their name.

Have a wonderful week and have a happy thanksgiving everyone.  See you nov 30 and dec 1rst!

Hi everyone.

What we are learning this month-
3-4yr old classes:
Review our letters and their sounds
    Same-opposite
    Colors and introduced fushia
    Counting to 12
Painted wooden turkeys -paper turkeys-pumpkin pie
    Reviewed shapes

The children are settling down and starting to listen better. They recite the pledge of allegiance each time they come. We play several movement games each day and try to read at the end of each class.
if your child isn't writing his/her name please give some extra help at home.  Thank you
4-5yr old classes:
Letters up to g, phonics, sight words
    Numbers to 20
    2new shapes-parallelogram and quatrefoil
    Fushia and basic colors
    Craft once a week
    Six different games
    Same-different meanings

I've been working hard at helping the children raise their hands, listen to instructions...some are having a difficult time but most are really trying to do their best.  This month we are learning that not everyone gets to win.  That was a hard concept for a few of the children at first but now they seem to understand.  If you have any questions please always feel free to call.

Each time your child brings home a letter train ask what letter it is and the sound.  If you do that each night before they go to bed and have them read a sight book they will progress -  thank you for entrusting me with your sweet children

Welcome everyone to a New year of Preschool at Building Blocks Preschool. For those of you that weren't able to come to the open house here are a few things that I shared:

This year each child will be building a 26 cart Alphabet Train.  As we learn each letter your child will bring home a piece (cart) with the letter we learned on it.  You can have it as a border in their bedroom or just put it in a folder.  With it out in the open for them to see it will help them identify their letters and start to understand the phonics (sounds) of each letter.

The first day of school will be September 8th for those of you coming on Tuesday/Thursday classes and the first day of school for the Monday-Wednesday classes will be September 9th.

Please have your child bring a backpack

Check on your September calendar if you are to bring treats on the day you have been assigned.
If there is ever a time your child will not be there, please call another parent and see if you can trade with them.  I will put that information (names of children in the class/phone#) in your childs'  manilla envelope with their October calendar at the end of September for your convenience.

Payment is due the first day of the each month when school is scheduled.  So for October your payment will be the first day your child comes back from spud harvest (Oct 12 & 13).  If you want to pay ahead you may do whatever is convenient.  I keep 3 different records to make sure it is accounted for.

I will write every Friday after the week is over to let you know what we have learned and how I feel the individual class in general is doing.

For those of you with children 4-5 you will get each month in your manilla envelopes several sight word cards.  PLEASE put them on your fridge and every day as your child walks by the fridge have them memorize the word.  This is a new learning adventure in memorizing but they do a great job with the first sight words being: I, a, see, can.  I have made up books for them to start reading and they will be bringing them home.  Please save them so they can practice reading during the summer months to keep them progressing.

September 8th & 9th can't come fast enough for me.  I am looking forward to having a wonderful year with each child and want to you know, if you ever have any questions or concerns please give me a call at 403-2715.  I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend and we will see you all very very soon!!! YEH

No school on Monday April 6, 2015. Spring Break

Sunday, April 5, 2015

My 3-4 year old class is full for next Fall. It filled up in three days.  I still have 3 classes available for children who are between the ages of 4 and 5.  These classes are specifically designed for children who will be attending kindergarten the following year (2016).  As I call it they will be "kinder ready" for kindergarten and then some.

We had a great Easter Party this past week.  The children met and talked with a grown Easter Bunny whose name was "Peter".  They asked him many questions and we took fun pics of each child as well as all of the children around "Peter Rabbit".  Some of the questions asked were"do you have any children"? "What do you eat"? "Where do you live"? "Why is your fur soft"? "Are all bunnies eyes blue"? "Why do you hop"?  They noticed that Peter had socks on under his fur and thought that was funny too. The colored eggs and Peter brought them some goodies and surprises.  One little boy said, "this is the best day of my life"!  I think that sums it up.

We are now ready to finish up our letters in class.  We have letters, W, X, Y and Z left of the alphabet to do.

I am happy where they are at academically.  They are ready for Kindergarten.  Keep their reading books I have given you and go over them through the summer.  This will help them remember their letters and sight words.  We have been enjoying small moments outside playing with each other and it has been so fun for the children.  They are all enjoying each others friendships and learning to be kind and take turns and share.  I am so proud of each one of them in their journey of life. A Baby's first steps are fun to watch, but these steps are growing steps they will use the rest of their lives and become a positive force for good in this world.  Its exciting to watch and wonder what each one will become.

Graduation will be May 21 in the morning at the East Stake Centers Gym. It will be short and sweet.  Please have your child wear church clothes, but adults do not need to.  The times will be:

*Class 4 (Tuesday-Thursday class that meets (9:45-11:45) graduation will be at 10:00 am

*Class 1 (Monday-Wednesday class that meets (8:45-10:45) graduation will be 11:00 am
*Class 5 (Tuesday-Thursday class that meets (12:00-2:00) graduation will be at 11:00 am
(I will be combining these two classes because I have some children that come everyday of the week  in these classes).

Monday, March 2, 2015

Hey (3-4 year old )Moms.... I'm getting phone calls for next years preschool registration and would like to let you know now if you are interested in having your child come next September, please fill out an application and send it to me as soon as you can.  I would like to give you the first option of what class you would like your child in-

(4-5 year old)-  We have now learned at least 13 sight words and we only have a couple of more reading books to complete.  I have never gotten this far with sight words before and the kids were up to the challenge.  Please keep the cards I have made for each of you so that in the summer time you can go over the sight words and really help them remember them well for kindergarten.

We are still working on counting to 100 - I believe the kindergarten test asks them to count as high as they can.  They are hoping they can count to 10.

They are ready for their colors, opposites, shapes, rhyming words (we will be working more on this month) and writing their names.  Some of the children are now writing both their first and last names as well.  Pretty impressive!  I love em so much. Overall the phonics and letter recognition is something we just have to work on a lot, but I believe each of these children can and will have a great understanding.

We will now start memorizing and learning our preschool graduation program that will be held at the East Idaho Stake House (East of my house -just come in the back doors and come into the gym, where your child will sit on the stage on a designated chair ready to put his/her cap on. The graduation is scheduled for May 21rst.  I'm still waiting for the approval in scheduling that particular building on that day so this date is just tentative.

(3-4 year old)-  We are still developing growth in our fingers, but today for the first time the children wrote their names with a pencil - incredible too!  They each tried very hard and they all were confident in trying.  Yeh!  Sometimes I hear sad words like, "I can't" or "I don't want to do this", but today's experience was very positive.  We are still learning shapes, phonic songs, letter songs, counting to 20.  We do pretty well until we get to 13 and after that we really have to work on that.  Our ABC's are coming along great.  Today as well as the 4-5 year old class we skipped, walked toe to toe, hopped on one foot, hopped on both feet, and did some story plays like "Jack and Jill" and "speackled frogs" and "Little monkeys jumping on the bed", which they loved all of them and wanted to do them over.  Playing these games and learning where our right and left feet go help them not only about coordination and balance, but what I am looking for is sharing, kindness towards each other and developing their social skills to a higher level.  They are becoming very positive about trying as I mentioned before and I feel very happy how far they have come in believing in themselves.
